Volkswagen Brings Back Buttons – Kelley Blue Book

“Customers say a pure touchscreen is not enough, and they expect physical switches and dials for important functions.”

With those words, Volkswagen Head of Design Andreas Mindt reassured the entire population of planet Earth that car designers might not have lost their minds.

Mindt was speaking to the U.K.’s AutoCar about a concept car — the ID2all — that will not appear in the U.S.

But VW interior designer lead Darius Watola told AutoCar the decision “showed a new approach for all models” after “recent feedback from customers.”

The interview comes shortly after CEO Thomas Schäfer said over-reliance on touchscreens “definitely did a lot of damage” to the brand’s reputation.

Our own editors have been frustrated by the lack of buttons in the newest generation of the Golf, and the very few found in the ID.4 electric SUV.
