The Kia EV9 Is the 2024 World Car of the Year

The Kia EV9, an all-electric 3-row SUV with a uniquely angular look, is the 2024 World Car of the Year. A jury of 98 journalists from 30 countries grants the award.

The EV9 starts at $56,395 (including the mandatory $1,495 delivery fee). It has an all-electric range of up to 304 miles and is offered in rear- or all-wheel drive (RWD or AWD). Power options range from 215 to 379 horsepower, though we expect a high-performance version with more power soon.

The EV9’s design probably clinched the honor. The EV9 is striking, with sharp creases emerging from gentle curves to create a distinctively chiseled look. “Star-map” linear lights accentuate its bearing.

There aren’t many 3-row SUVs that get a second look in traffic. The EV9 does.

The EV9 beat out the Volvo EX30 and the BYD Seal – a Chinese EV not sold in the U.S. – to claim the overall title. It also took home the World Electric Vehicle of the Year award.

The EX30 didn’t go winless. It won World Urban Car of the Year.

World Luxury Car of the Year went to the redesigned BMW 5-Series and the electric BMW i5, which the jury considered one vehicle.

The Ioniq 5 N, a 641-hp all-electric take on Hyundai’s boxy Ioniq 5 SUV, won World Performance Car of the Year.

The 2024 Toyota Prius won World Car Design of the Year. The Prius was redesigned for the 2023 model year but appeared too late for consideration in last year’s awards. So, 2024 was the jury’s first chance to honor the Prius’s remarkable sporty makeover.
