Recall Alert: Kia K900, Stinger

Kia is recalling about 36,000 cars with 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engines because an oil leak can lead to an engine compartment fire.

Recalled models include the:

  • 2019-2020 Kia K900
  • 2018-2023 Kia Stinger

Kia tells federal safety officials that a pipe and hose assembly that feeds oil to the left-hand turbocharger can deteriorate due to heat from the exhaust manifold. “Such deterioration can lead to oil leaks, which in the presence of hot exhaust components, increases the risk of an engine compartment fire while driving,” according to Kia’s filing.

Kia warns drivers that they may smell burning or see an oil pressure warning light as the problem develops.

The company says it has received no reports of actual fires – just one report of smoke from a car sold in its home market of South Korea. However, dealers have reported 25 warranty claims for oil leaks related to the turbocharger.

Dealers will replace the pipe and hose assembly with an improved model designed to resist heat better. Recall repairs are always free.
