Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Priced Near $70,000 Mark

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N will be the quickest Hyundai ever built. It will also be the most expensive.

The company has announced that Hyundai’s high-performance electric vehicle (EV) will start at $67,475.

Hyundai likely never intended the car to be a common sight. It’s more of a battle cry. An ultra-high-performance version of the boxy, bulldog-cute Ioniq 5 EV, it boasts 641 horsepower and gets from zero-to-60 mph in just 3.4 seconds.

The 5 N puts out 601 hp in regular operation but makes it more available at the touch of a boost button, like a real-life Mario Kart. It mimics shifts with electronic programming and even has a drift mode setting that helps drivers with a precise, purposeful loss of differential control.

All-wheel drive (AWD), the Ioniq 5 N ships on high-performance 275/35R21 Pirelli P Zero summer tires like many famous sports cars. Thanks to the orange accents low on the side skirts and bumpers, you’ll spot it in traffic.

But you won’t see many of them in traffic. The audience for a Hyundai at Porsche prices is negligible. That’s ok. Hyundai doesn’t need to sell many Ioniq 5 N models to make its point.

Hyundai, like many automakers these days, has a high-performance division. The N unit takes standard Hyundai cars and spices them up. The Ioniq 5 N is its signature product, but Hyundai will likely sell more Elantra N sedans and Kona N compact SUVs at more affordable prices.
