Honda Plans 2025 Civic Hybrid, Wireless Apple CarPlay for Older Accords

The Honda Civic is one of America’s most popular compact cars. But, oddly, it currently lacks a hybrid model. Competitors like the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra offer compelling hybrid options, making the lack of a Civic Hybrid for its latest generation a strange decision. So Honda is about to fix it.

The automaker announced this week that it will introduce hybrid versions of both its Civic sedan and hatchback for the 2025 model year.

Honda estimates that hybrid versions will “comprise about 40% of the models’ sales when it launches this summer.”

The move comes along with a styling refresh for the Civic lineup. Honda executives shared early photos of the updated sedan, which show a subtle visual evolution. The 2025 model keeps the European lines of the current edition but de-emphasizes air vents under the headlights and replaces horizontal grille strakes with a chainlink mesh.

Executives also announced a plan to update 2018-2022 Accord sedans to offer wireless Apple CarPlay. The change can be accomplished with a software update, they said. The company has not yet offered details on how owners can sign up for the upgrade or specified a cost. Those models are not equipped to receive over-the-air updates, so owners will need to schedule a service appointment for the update.

We’ll bring details on how to do so when Honda releases them.
