The Hyundai Sonata is not all-new for 2024. But the first time you see one on the road, you’ll probably think it is.
Hyundai designers have given the Sonata one of the most effective makeovers we’ve seen in several years. The changes are primarily cosmetic, but they drastically improve the sedan’s look inside and out.
The 2023 version of the car is still on many dealership lots and is a solid choice for anyone looking for a midsize sedan. Our expert test driver praised its “sleek styling, modern technology, and a well-equipped interior.” A 10-year powertrain warranty makes it one of the best investments in its class — one that likely won’t hit you with a costly repair bill until at least 2033.
But there’s no getting around the fact that its nose looks bulbous and droopy.
For 2024, designers fixed that problem and gave it a fashionable redesign centered on a thin horizontal light strip across the front. Inside, a sharp redesign looks elegant thanks to a panoramic curved display that houses both the driver’s screen and central touchscreen.
Moving the twist-to-drive shifter to the steering column frees up center storage space and looks less Reagan administration than it sounds.
Mechanically, Hyundai is now offering an all-wheel-drive (AWD) model.
2024 Hyundai Sonata Pricing
Despite the improvements, prices haven’t shifted much. The lowest trim level from 2023, the SE, disappears from the lineup. That can create the illusion of higher pricing, as it means the lowest price appearing on comparison charts on car websites will be higher. But automakers usually make that move when the base model isn’t selling, so it doesn’t change the effective price most people pay.
For some trim levels, prices have actually decreased.
Hyundai also charges a mandatory $1,115 delivery fee on all sedans — one of the lower delivery fees in the industry for 2024.
