2024 Genesis G80 vs. 2024 Jaguar XF Comparison

The 2024 Genesis G80 and Jaguar XF are competing models in the midsize luxury sedan arena. Both have sleek designs for a dash of styling bravado, not to mention reasonable dimensions that make them easy to maneuver and park.

First introduced to the Genesis range for the 2019 model year, the G80’s most comprehensive refresh came in 2021. This ushered in the current attention-grabbing shape highlighted by its split headlights and taillights. 

This second-generation Jaguar XF dates to the 2016 model year. This makes it one of the older entries among rivals such as the Lexus ES, BMW 3 Series, Cadillac CT5, and Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

2024 Genesis G80

The 2024 Genesis G80 in 2.5T format starts at $55,650, including a $1,375 destination charge. Notable updates this year include the standard fitment of all-wheel drive and a stronger base drivetrain. 

The previous 252-horsepower 2.0-liter 4-cylinder is replaced by a 300-hp 2.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder. The 3.5T model also offers an optional 375-hp twin-turbo V6. Each engine is coupled to an 8-speed automatic. The G80 3.5T starts at $65,500.

Genesis G80 Highlights

Standard all-wheel drive: This is great news for sedan shoppers who want the added security and all-season grip afforded by all-wheel drive.  

Outstanding warranty: The G80’s class-leading warranty is a major plus point, not to mention the entire Genesis lineup. Genesis G80 owners get 5 years/60,000 miles of bumper-to-bumper coverage plus powertrain coverage of 10 years/100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Also included is three years or 36,000 miles of free scheduled maintenance.

Rear-wheel steering: The 3.5T model has the option of rear-wheel steering. This provides extra agility during spirited driving and improved low-speed maneuverability.

Highway Driving Assist 2: This partially automated system, which uses adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist as its base, maintains lane positioning and a safe distance for vehicles ahead. Genesis upgraded Highway Driving Assist this model year, and it’s standard on every G80.

2024 Jaguar XF

The 2024 Jaguar XF starts at $51,175, including a $1,375 factory-to-delivery charge. As we pointed out, having first arrived in 2016, this generation of the XF is now approaching the equivalent of automotive AARP status. It still looks attractive, if a little conservative compared to flashier rivals. 

The XF range is down to one trim — R-Dynamic SE — though there is still a choice of two drivetrains. The entry-level engine is a turbocharged 4-cylinder that sends 246 hp to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic. Optional is a more potent 296-hp version of this same engine that combines the same gearbox with all-wheel drive.  

Jaguar XF Highlights 

Agility: Jaguar knows a thing or two about creating fun-to-drive vehicles. This is apparent in the highly nimble XF. It zips around corners without drama, and the suspension is firm but not overly so when traversing rough roads. It’s supple and sporty, which translates to it being a whole lot of fun when you’re behind the wheel.

Value: You don’t often consider Jaguar a nameplate that stands for being big on value. Yet the XF’s starting price is approximately $4,000 less than a base Genesis G80. 

Attractive interior: During many road tests we’ve enjoyed the classy interior of the XF. The front seats are very supportive after hours spent behind the wheel. It’s a lot more minimalist in design compared to Jaguar’s wood-lined and chrome interiors of yesteryear, though we think it’s aged well. 

Meridian stereo: This 14-speaker and 380-watt audio system with a dual-channel subwoofer has great sound quality and shows why the Meridian name is so respected among music aficionados.

Similarities

In terms of their sizes and general specs, the Genesis G80 and Jaguar XF appear pretty evenly matched. We find them equally enjoyable to drive; their steering is lively, and their respective suspensions are nicely tuned for spirited drives or mellower cruises. 

Conclusion

The Jaguar XF could pull off the upset for anyone who wants a luxury sedan but prefers being a little non-conformist. You definitely won’t see many XF sedans clogging up parking lots, and this more rarefied image has its unique charms. 

But the Genesis G80 looks, feels, and drives like a more modern and updated vehicle, not to mention the better warranty and roomier interior. We think it’s the better choice of these two.
